Kristine Desmarais, CCCA , President, moved to Washington DC from Westchester County, New York in August 2019, 6-months before COVID, with her husband, two kids and one dog. She now has 2 black labs, a daughter in college, a rising senior at St Albans, and more time to engage in the community. 

Before shifting her focus on raising a family, Kristine was a director of marketing for New York’s largest bank, hospital, and health club chain.  Even as a full-time mother, Kristine was an active volunteer serving as head of the Riverdale lower school parent association, on the Board of the Junior League of Bronxville, and Treasurer of the Global Society of Latvian Artists. Before moving to DC she was an award-winning real estate agent.

Now in DC, Kristine has resumed her real estate career and is an active member of the St Albans parent association. She is excited to serve as President of the Chevy Chase Community Association and promoting the many benefits of this wonderful neighborhood.

Rasheen Carbin, CCCA First President, is originally from Detroit, Michigan. Rasheen came to Washington, D.C. in the 1990s. He is an entrepreneur who runs a digital marketing agency. In addition to his work with the CCCA, he serves as board president of Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington, president of the Georgetown Alumni Club of Metropolitan DC, and is board member of St. Mary's Court in a Foggy Bottom.

12-18 Years-Old Volunteers Needed: Children’s National Hospital is looking for children to participate in a paid observational research study about whether melatonin can decrease concussion symptoms and improve sleep and mood symptoms after an acute concussion. How to make sure you are receiving CCCA emails

Email allow lists

Many email clients use spam blockers to automatically reroute unwanted emails to a Junk or Spam folder. To ensure that you receive messages from admin@chevychasecitizens.org, we encourage you to add us to your address book (also known as safe senders list).

For instructions on adding email addresses to allow lists on different email clients, follow the appropriate instructions below.

AOL 9

1. Add the email address to your address book.

AOL 8

1. Open a message from the sender you want to add.
2. Click the Add Address icon on the right.
3. Verify that the information displayed is correct.
4. Click Save.

Apple Mail

1. Open a message from the sender you want to add.
2. Click the Flag icon and select Mark as Not Junk.

Earthlink

1. Go to your address book.
2. Click the Add button.
3. Enter the email address under Internet Information.

Gmail

1. Open a message from the sender you want to add.
2. Click More Options in the email header.
3. Click Add Sender to Contact List.

MSN Hotmail

1. Go to the Options page.
2. On the left side of the page, click Mail and then click Junk E-Mail Protection.
3. Click Add Senders to Safe List.
4. Enter the email address of the sender and then click Add.

Outlook 2010

1. On the Home tab, in the Delete group, click Junk, and then click Junk E-mail Options.
2. On the Safe Senders tab, select the automatically add people I e-mail to the Safe Senders List check box.

Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003, or Outlook Express

1. Go to Tools on the menu bar.
2. Select Options in the pull-down menu.
3. Under Preferences, select Junk E-mail.
4. Click on the Safe Sender tab.
5. Click the Add button.
6. Type the email address of the sender in the text box.

Yahoo! Mail

1. Within your Spam folder, select a message from the sender you want to add, then click the Not Spam option.

Call box restoration

CCCA, HCCDC and Ch/Art are working together to restore what many consider to be an eyesore into something we could be proud of and point to during history walks, art walks, visiting businesses, or just strolling in the neighborhood. We have nine call boxes in the immediate vicinity of the Connecticut Avenue business district. 

Our plan is to review the structural integrity of the call boxes and restore the steel to good condition. We will then add art to them. Each box will be privately funded, and a plaque of the funders will be attached to the finished box. For information how to contribute, please write to president@chevychasecitizens.org. 

 

The rehabilitation of the Chevy Chase Circle’s fountain has begun!

It means that the fountain will not be working this summer but it also means that by next spring, thanks to both Federal dollars and community donations, we will have a refurbished fountain replete with a new pumping and filtration system, a re-lined basin, new landscaping and LIGHTS! 

Working with the National Park Service that owns the circle and the dollars generated through community donations, Friends of Chevy Chase Circle engineered the first-ever lighting plan for the fountain and brought that plan to the Commission of Fine Arts. Permission to install lights both in the fountain itself and around the basin was granted soon after. Happily, lights for both their aesthetic and safety effects are now part and parcel of the National Park Service’s plan for the rehabilitation of the fountain and next spring, lights will be part of the fountain and the circle’s new face.

Fencing has gone up to enclose the area and there will be dumpsters and heavy equipment added to the mix. It is estimated that the project will continue through November. It will also mean some noise. Crews will need to drill through the concrete basin and then excavate to reach the plumbing system and the pipes that lay directly under the fountain. Please be extra cautious when navigating the circle!

Finally, our neighborhood landmark will continue to look better and better due to community stewardship and our partnership with the National Park Service but only if individuals within this community step forward to make a difference. Friends of Chevy Chase Circle is seeking leadership on into the future and if serving in a leadership position or on the community board made up of both DC and Maryland residents is of interest, Please let us know!

CCCA was awarded a $2000 grant by the Chevy Chase ANC 3/4G to migrate our website from an old platform to a new one. In the process, we will improve the appearance and functionality of the website. The effort should take about 6 weeks (fingers crossed). Once the work is done, we will announce the rollout to the entire community. Thank you to the ANC for its generous grant.
